Apartment

Moving to a new state has its challenges, but the excitement to decorate a new space makes it all worth it.

I haven't moved or even un-packed half of my possessions since I moved from Miami back to Maryland in 2008.  That means I have a crap ton of things that have been in boxes for the past 5 years.  Good God, writing that down makes it seem even more insane!

My biggest challenge is trying to go through everything and weeding out what I want to donate, trash or replace.

To get myself ready for the re-decorating I've put together a Pinterest board.  Here are a few of my favorite ideas, that are easy and inexpensive to create!

New Year...New Plans

When the clock struck 12 am on January 1st I was surprised how happy I was with how my life has turned out.  2012 was a year of changes for me, personally and professionally.  I went from planing my future with a man to being single again, making the decision to move to a new state, finally finding the friends you wait your whole life to meet, relocating my entire business and having to hire out help with my business.

As the new year starts I can't help but think about what this year will offer me and what I need to do to make it the best possible year it can be.  Just like many of you I made a list of resolutions to follow this year.  I didn't make a list for myself but for my business, here are my resolutions:

  1. Blog more.  I know I probably say this every few months, but I really want to get into the habit of keeping a daily blog.  Sometimes I worry that I won't have anything to say or that the blog posts might be terrible, but I'm going to take the leap and try my absolute hardest to keep this resolution.
  2. Ask for help.  I've always had a hard time asking for help, but in 2012 I finally went and asked. In order for my business to grow I have to ask for help, and this year I'm going to delegate more work to those that I know can finish the tasks just as well as I can.
  3. PR (public relations).  I've been shopping for a PR company and found an amazing one located in NYC and LA.  This year I'm taking the leap and try out/signing on with a PR company!
I may only have a few resolutions but they are the resolutions that I really want to work on and know I can complete.  I couldn't be more excited for 2013, I have a lot planned and can't wait to take you all along the journey with me!

What resolutions have you made this year?

DIY Rings

Above the knuckle rings are so popular these days that I thought I'd share an easy ring that I made this weekend.  It's really simple and takes less than 10 minutes to make and costs around $5.00.

Here is what you need:
- Chain - use any color and style you like.  An even better idea would be to spray paint the chain a fun color!
- Pliers
- Jewelry cutter
- Optional tape measure

First step is to wrap the chain around your finger to measure the length it needs to be.  I like to make it at least one link smaller because you'll be adding the jump ring.  You can even use a tape measure and wrap it around your finger to get the desired length.

Once you've determined the size cut the chain.  Next take the jump ring and connect the two ends.  Viola, a new knuckle ring!

Holiday Music

via
I found this selection of songs on Pinterset a few weeks ago and it made me think of all the holiday music I love to listen to.  But there is only one song that I could listen to all year and is my favorite all time Christmas song, Wham - Last Christmas.  If you haven't heard it yet here's an awesometacular 80s Wham music video!

Holiday Parties

Let's talk about holiday parties.  I'm very lucky to work from home, but because were such a small company and holiday party would include two people, my mom and I, dressing up is out of the question.  I've always been a little jealous of those that get to work with others and outside of the home.  So this year I'm going to live vicariously through all of you that get to have a work holiday party this year!

I've put together a few items that I think would be perfect to wear this season.  A couple festive nail polishes, glamorous clothes and some fabulous jewelry!

I'd love to hear any of your holiday party moments and what you'll be wearing this year!

Pinterest Make

January is only a few months away, and if you're like me you dream of what changes you will make next year.  While perusing Pinterest I found this amazing DIY reusable calender that grows with each year.

via

What you need:

  • A box or container to fit your calender in.
  • Paper of your choice with each date listed on the page.
How it works:

  • Re-use this calender each year by starting a new line with the new year.
  • Each day you will write something that happened that day, it can be big or small.
  • Then 5, 10, even 20 years from now look back and see what you happened that day.
  • Enjoy the memories!

My Weekend

I took a trip to what I will call my new home in four months.  Currently I live in Southern Maryland, but I've learned that I've outgrown the area and am making the trip to Asheville, North Carolina.

The area there is perfect for an artsy girl like me, and I can't wait to move!  The only thing that I'm not looking forward to is the moving part, yucky.

Here are a few photos I've taken while visiting!

1920s apartment building that I'm considering as a possible new home for me.

Mountain views.  I'm gladly giving up the water for this gorgeous view

Fall Fashion

Fall is here and the weather is getting crisp.  I've started to pull out a few winter essentials like boots, sweaters and scarves.

I love going through all my items when a new season begins and another one ends, because it allows me to donate old items that I no longer wear, hem any pieces that might have holes and pick up a few items that need to be replaced.

This season I've stocked up on long sleeve shirts, socks, a few sweaters and a new pair of boots.  Have you picked up any new items this fall?

Art can be expensive, let's make our own!  I love these letters (especially since they have rhinestones).

via

Here's what you need:

- Letters-  Michaels sells wooden letters and you can certainly find them online.
- Spray paint - Any local hardware store
- Rhinestones - Again Michaels sells them!
- Glue - I'll be using a hot glue gun. It's fast and keeps things in place

Let us talk about Cocktails

Whether you're trick or treating with your kiddos, staying home watching Charlie Brown's Great Pumpkin, or celebrating with friends, fixing yourself a little fun Halloween cocktail is a great way to welcome the witches and ghouls.

Martha Stewart has some great recipes. Here is one that is frighteningly yummy.

via
Halloween Sunset Cocktail:

Makes one serving

Ingredients

  • 3 ounces tangerine juice
  • 1 1/2 ounces white rum
  • 3/4 ounce grenadine
  • Ice cubes

Directions

  1. Combine juice and rum in a tall glass filled with ice. Top with grenadine. Serve.

Cook's Note

This cocktail is beautifully two-toned when first poured; afterward, the ingredients start to mix together into an intense orange color.
